Bordeaux Wines: A Brief Guide

Bordeaux is one of the most famous wine regions in the world, and its wines are known for their quality, complexity, and age-ability. Bordeaux wines are made from various grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Sauvignon Blanc. The wines are typically red, but there are also some white and rose Bordeaux wines.

Bordeaux wines are made in a variety of appellations or wine regions. The most famous names include Médoc, Margaux, Saint-Émilion, and Pomerol. Each has its own unique terroir, or growing conditions, which contribute to the character of the wines.

Our range of wines by Château de Parenchère is some of the best in their category. Affordable, made with love and with generational experience that is hard to beat. Dating back to 1570, the estate has a long and well-established history in viticulture. It is located on the eastern edge of the Bordeaux wine-growing area, 38 km from Saint-Emilion, near the village of Sainte-Foy-La-Grande. It lies on the borders of the Dordogne and the Lot et Garonne departments.

The vines are planted on the estate’s best-exposed plots and solely on hillsides so that rainwater drains away naturally. This way, stagnating water does not harm fruit quality, which would cause the grapes to swell. Furthermore, thanks to this ideal exposure, the grapes get a lot of sun from early morning until late evening, which helps them reach their best maturity level even in challenging years. The grapes will therefore be able to express all their aromas and richness.

The result of this unique terroir means that their wines exude quality. Our ‘magnificent seven’ collection by Château de Parenchère includes:

Bordeaux Supérieur Rouge – A traditional Parenchère blend that is fleshy, with a very deeply coloured robe. Characterised by a good balance between fruit and tannin, it displays distinct red fruit aromas with a long, sustained finish.

The Cuvée Raphaël Bordeaux Supérieur – The flagship wine of Parenchère, the Cuvée Raphaël is a dense, concentrated wine with elegant tannins and a mellow and smooth finish. The wine is elegantly woody but not excessively to leave plenty of room for the fruit.

Esprit de Parenchère Bordeaux Supérieur Rouge – A highly concentrated yet very elegant wine. We like to think of it as powerful but with finesse, offering long ageing potential.

L’Équilibriste Bordeaux Rouge – A beautiful deep purple-red colour with intense aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, blueberry and notes of peony and violet on the nose. On the palate, the attack is round, with crunchy and juicy fruit. Mineral and floral flavours continue the tasting on a subtle and silky tannic framework.

The Bordeaux Blanc Sec – A white wine with intense white and citrus fruit aromas, fresh and round on the palate. Its balance makes it an ideal accompaniment for fish and seafood.

The Bordeaux Clairet – A particularly aromatic wine with deep red fruit colour. It is more substantial than traditional rosés, with a good body and exuberant fruitiness. This roundness and more pronounced structure make it a perfect rosé for gastronomy.

The La Roseraie Bordeaux Rose A rosé of great freshness, with a rose petal colour and a very fine and subtle floral aroma of rose, hawthorn, and lychee.

Bordeaux wines are typically aged in oak barrels, which helps to soften the tannins and add complexity to the wine. The wines can be aged for many years, and some of the most famous Bordeaux wines are over 100 years old.

They are perfect for a variety of occasions. They can be enjoyed on their own, or paired with food. Some of the best food pairings for Bordeaux wines include red meat, poultry, and cheese.

Bordeaux wine is an excellent choice if you are looking for delicious and age-worthy wine. With so many different appellations and grape varieties to choose from, there is sure to be a Bordeaux wine that you will love.
