Why We Love Bordeaux Blanc Sec
Quite possibly, the Bordeaux Blanc-Sec by Château de Parenchère is the only white wine you ever need to drink again.
This a bold statement, and at Bacchus Wines PLDC, we seldom make them, but the Blanc-Sec is a wine for all occasions. It’s fantastic with or without food and will please discerning white wine drinkers everywhere.
The 2019 and 2020 Blanc-Sec is smooth, silky and golden. It’s a white wine with intense white and citrus fruit aromas with a fresh and round palate and is expertly balanced. The acidity offsets hints of nectar, while the majority of Sauvignon grapes in this blend offer ample freshness.
Château de Parenchère enjoys a perfect terroir of white wines thanks to the presence of limestone in the soil. The blend is a bright and aromatic dry white wine with roundness. The addition of Sémillon offers fleshiness in the mouth, and the hints of Muscadelle offer aromatic and sustained notes of white flowers.
The Bordeaux Blanc-Sec is a delight all on its own with friends, but it pairs excellently with food too. We really enjoy it with lighter fish and seafood and warm summer salads.
Not surprisingly, the wine has won numerous prizes. The 2019 vintage won the Decanter Silver World Wine Award, noting it as,
“Classy, complex and refined. Ground hazelnut mix with scented peach, white flowers and grapefruit. Vivacious, textured and long.”
The 2020 vintage also won the Decanter Bronze World Wine Award, noting it as “Heady and inviting with a floral nose leading through to a spiced palate of generous fruit.”
Wine expert James Suckling recommended the 2020 vintage as having “Aromas of pineapple, sliced apple, melon and lime curd. It’s medium-bodied with a ripe, fruity palate. Some crushed-stone character underneath the tropical fruit.”
