Wine of the Month – Esprit de Parenchère

Our ‘wine of the month’ has to be the fantastic Esprit de Parenchère Bordeaux Supérieur Rouge. The wine is concentrated yet very elegant. It is powerful but with finesse and offers exceptionally long ageing potential.

About Esprit de Parenchère

Esprit de Parenchère is the Château’s exceptional cuvée, embodying the quintessence of Chateau’s terroir. It is produced from the two best estate plots with extremely low yields. The blend is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, a grape with the most structure and an excellent ageing aptitude. The Cabernet Sauvignon grape offers structure and tannic density, while the Merlot grape offers suppleness, fruitiness, and roundness.

The Esprit de Parenchère is aged in French oak barrels exclusively for 12 months on fine lees, without racking and micro-oxygenation. It is ideal after eight to fifteen years but can be kept longer in adequate conditions.

Food Pairing

This fine red wine has a lot of personality, so we love it with game, beef, and poultry. Think big, bold flavours that will work in harmony rather than against each other. The bold tannins in the Esprit de Parenchère work beautifully with beef and game because they help break down the meat’s richness. The meat’s protein and fat help lessen the red wine’s astringency, bringing out its natural fruity notes.

Good news for vegetarians and vegans, too. This bold red wine is delicious with smoked tofu, which brings out the oak-ageing notes. Cheese platters are also perfect for an indulgent supper, and we particularly love it with aged cheeses like cheddar, Gruyère, and a strong blue cheese like Roquefort.

Awards & Accolades

Decanter magazine awarded the 2018 vintage a Silver World Wine Award, describing it as having a “pretty nose of cassis, cedar and black cherry aromatics, bramble, plum and graceful fine tannins to the palate.”

Jake S Watkins, ex-Michelin Star restaurateur from Petersfield, has followed Parenchère wines for over 25 years. He told us, “Esprit de Parenchère is amazing! There’s a beautiful balance between nuance and power, an exquisite integration between fruit, alcohol, and wood. Just perfect.”
